Simonton Elementary

Simonton Elementary School is the last of the 14 Schools in and around my Distrct. It’s also in my Neighborhood.

After 6 years, the Principal, Clinton Alexander is moving into a new role as Assistant Superintendant so today I met with him and Dr. Tamara Perkins who will be the new Principal.

The school’s core belief is: Every Student, Every Day, Deserves to “Learn, Lead and Excel”. The Principal and Teachers make 5 commitment to parents and the parents in turn have been very involved .

This school also allows pre-k children from all over county to participate in “Play to Learn” each Thursday.

The Guided Reading Room allows students to get a short assessment of their reading capabilities. This then allows them to choose books at the level they are reading at.

They also have some wonderful community partnership. On Sundays the school is used by the Northeast Community Church. The church as generously agreed to pay off the balance of any student still owing money for their breakfast and lunch at the end of the year. Headquarters Barber Shop will cut any student’s hair free of charge. The school also had a Clothing donation Room.

Simonton is 25 years old with 856 students. 40% Blacks, 33% Hispanic, 14% White, 4% Asian and 4% Multiracial. 11% Special Needs
