2021 Legislative Session

State Representative Donna McLeod

The Swearing In

Election Certification

Second Certification of Election

The 2021 legislative session began on Monday, January 11, 2021. The swearing in had a lot less fanfare than previous years, but I am proud to serve District 105 again.

Budget

Our biggest responsibility is the draw up the budget for the state of Georgia and this year it will be a challenging task since tax revenues are down because of COVID. I assure you I will stand up to any Republican attempts to cut the budget in areas that will harm Georgians.

Redistricting

Second on the agenda is redistricting. Every 10 years, after the census, we change our state legislative districts and Congressional districts. Republicans always try to change them so they can stay in power. This year’s redistricting negotiations will certainly be interesting because the Republicans are smarting over their Georgia elections losses; from President, to US Senate right on down to the 7th Congressional district.

Voting Restrictions

Lastly, the Republicans are going to try to restrict voting. They are proposing to make it harder to vote by absentee, eliminate drop boxes for absentee ballots and shorted early voting times. All because the will of the people did not go their way. I assure you, the Republicans will hear my voice loud and clear against these measures when they propose any of them.
