Grayson Elementary

So this week is Kindergarten Registration, but Principal Chris Brown and Assistant Principal Erica Wakefall at Grayson Elementary School still agreed to meet with me.

There was lots of activities going on. Parents registering students and today was “Field Day”. Everyone was dressed for fun and there is a huge emphasis around the school that learning can be fun. Games are used to make learning fun for literacy night, math night, science night, Fine Arts Night etc…

Grayson Elementary also has excellent teacher retention 😊

The original school house was built in 1934, when a fire destroyed it, a school made of Stone was built in the 40s. The main building was built in the 50s and in the late 80s the building in the back was built. A gym and another building was built in 1998. So if you are keeping track, there is 5 separate building. To go from building to building you have to do it by going outside.

I met two grandmothers who volunteer their time to create student display billboard. They come up with really creative ideas. Grayson Elementary has a beautiful garden.

Family involvement is encouraged and activities are developed to achieve it (Picnic Day, Tree Lighting, Friday Dance and Treat Day). This school has a 5 Star Climate Ratings and most of the Teachers in Gwinnett County send their children to this school.

The school’s student population is 962: 51% Black, 39% White, 8% Hispanic and 2% multiracial. This school has 22% Special Needs Students. The school has seen some fluctuations in student enrollment.
