Harbins Elementary

visited Harbins Elementary School in Dacula. This school was built in 1995 but the older School House is still located nearby (see the mural below). Under the leadership of Principal, Jennifer Chatham they are working towards becoming a S.T.E.M school. This school is in the Archer Cluster, the Cluster believes in being committed to #Community #Service.

Students incorporate Science, Technology Engineering and math into history and other subjects.

The young people I spoke with really love this school. One of the student I spoke with had moved here from Arizona, he said this school made him feel special and he felt like he was learning a lot more.

Harbins Elementary has a student population of 1350 with 17% Special Needs. All Special Needs Students are expected to pass the Milestone Testing.

Harbins student raise chickens, there are several hydroponics around the school and a aquaponics System outside. The aquaponics setup is really cool; waste from the fish pond is used to fertilize the plants in the troph.

The current demographics is: 41% White, 33% Black and 17% Hispanics and 9% mixture.
