Pharr Elementary School

Donna McLeod at Pharr Elementary School

I have been making an effort to visit each of schools in and around my district because education is so fundamental to our future, entrepreneurship and the workforce. I am so glad that Principal and Teachers have appreciated this.

So my visit to Pharr Elementary came about because one of my Constituent April Showers Durel who teaches at Pharr. Ms. Durel was so proud of her school she wanted me to visit, so I did. Pharr was built in 1990 and has had only 4 Principals in 29 years.

This is a caring and nurturing school, that is committed to educating their students. Principal, Lisa Rhodes is committed to ensuring that everyone knows they are valued. This school has 741 students. 19% (roughly 141) of the students are ESL (English as a second language, 15% have special needs (some are severe and profound) and require Individual Education Plan (IEP). They have created environments with life skills and sensory needs. This is one of 18 schools in Gwinnett with a Pre-K program. This Pre-K program focus on Special Needs Students.

They have the best “Community Garden”. They have won prizes for their gardens (as you will see in the pics). In fact they will have their garden night on May 2nd so check them out😁

Shout out to The Wayne Hall Show for your great work has a special education teacher!
