Sine Die 2021

End of a Tough Legislative Session

Day 40 of 40 ended the 2021 Legislative Session on March 31, 2021. CLICK HERE for more information on what passed and failed the 2021 Georgia legislative session.

This 2021 Legislative Session proved to be extremely toxic, but Elected Members of the Democratic Party fought hard to put the people we serve first. The voter suppression bills that grabbed most of the 2021 session include HB531, SB241, and SB202; SB202 was signed into law on March 25, 2021. I am grateful that SB221 (the Gold Dome Swamp Bill) and HB290 (the non-scientific based Hospital and Nursing Home visitation bill proposed during the Pandemic) will not become law.

I am so glad this session has ended; I love the work I do on behalf of the people, but I do not like knowing that we are not collectively working on behalf of the people. This is evident by some of the proposed legislation this year.

On April 3, 2021 I did an interview on the Ali Velshi show about the Georgia Voter Suppression law.

Consequences of Georgia’s Voter Suppression Law

As mentioned above SB202, the Voter Suppression bill was signed into law this session.

We called upon the business community to help us bring the Voter Suppression Bill to a halt, but our calls went unanswered.

After pressure from Lawmakers, Advocates, and Voters, the Business Community has finally stepped up to make it clear that Georgia’s Voter Suppression Bill is unacceptable. In fact on Friday, April 2, 2021, Major League Baseball pulled the All-Star Game from Georgia over the voting law.

It is time that Congress pass SR1 [the former HR1], For the People Act and Congressman Lewis’s Voting Rights Act. Georgia must repeal SB202.
